Union leaders are responding to news reports that thousands of appointed officials, managers, and top agency officials would receive upwards of $7 million in longevity bonuses in October. The Connecticut General Assembly yesterday ratified the revised SEBAC 2011 agreement and companion bargaining unit contracts with the expiration of the review period since they were filed five days ago. Legislative approval means that the job security provisions for the 32 out of 34 bargaining units that ratified their companion agreements are now in force.

Rescinding Layoff Notices for State Workers and Restoring Services for Residents.

Leaders of the unions in the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) again called on the Malloy Administration Friday to immediately restore the jobs of recently laid-off members. All but two of the 34 bargaining units in the coalition's 15 unions -- representing 97% of the state's unionized workforce -- have approved extended contracts that provide four years of protection from layoffs. These are companions to the revised SEBAC tentative agreement (TA) that was unanimously approved by the coalition after the members of its unions ratified it.

At the request of State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) union leaders, the Malloy Administration has moved to address conflicting information disseminated to some workers who recently received notice of layoff. The inaccurate information has been spread by news media sources and by some agency managers. At issue is job protection for state workers receiving layoff notices or being laid-off prior to final votes on the revised tentative agreement unions and the governor's representatives reached last week.
