Taking Action on 2009 Legislative Session Wins & Losses

CSPCOA Members and House Speaker DonovanExecutive Director Bob Rinker, CPSCOA Council Members Mark Sticca and Ed Gould, and Union President Cathy Osten Met with House Speaker Chris Donovan on the Impact of Cuts on the State Police
Our members working for the State and many more working in local cities, towns, and school districts have recently negotiated cost savings and job security agreements. But if we don't fix the big problems with Connecticut's state budget, public service workers will be in the same place two years from now.

SEIU organized members of its six affiliated unions to take our priority issues direct to our elected representatives at the Capitol in Hartford for weekly "Labor Lobby Days" throughout the 2009 Legislative Session. We are now focused on moving the Governor to sign landmark healthcare reform legislation that will increase access to affordable insurance for all our members, and urging legislators to rescind budget cuts that impact our members working in the Department of Public Safety.

And until a state budget is passed, all local and state public services in Connecticut are at risk. That's why we are continuing to organize our members to make their voices heard -- otherwise, the Governor and the General Assembly may make the recession worse for all of us.
