GA Public Health and Human Services Committees Hearing on Cuts to Human Services
September 03, 2009, 10:00 AM
-
4:30 PM
Room TBD, Legislative Office Building, 300 Capitol Ave, Hartford, CT
Legislative Hearing
Purpose:
Governor Rell and some state lawmakers have proposed devastating cuts to public health and social services. Examples include:
Outsourcing DDS client services;
Closing Detox beds in Hartford's Blue Hills and Middletown's CT Valley Hospitals;
Shutting down the High Meadows residential center;
Closing Ceadarcrest Hospital; and
Cutting resources for DMHAS and DDS community providers.
District 1199/SEIU members who deliver these vital services and their allies in SEBAC's unions are organizing community support to block Governor Rell from balancing her budget at the expense of Connecticut’s most vulnerable citizens.
Agenda:
Lawmakers on the General Assembly's Public Health and Human Services Committees are holding a joint hearing to listen to public concerns about the impact of the proposed cuts:
10:00 AM: State Officials to speak
11:00 AM: Experts to speak
1:30 PM: Public testimony begins
Action:
Members are urged to mobilize former clients, parents, guardians, care advocates, local elected officials, and concerned citizens to come
come tell the Governor and state legislators that they need to put the health and well-being of the people they are elected to serve first!
