2010 Campaign Endorsements & Member Involvement

Our Union Members Listened as Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman Accepted their Nominations for Governor and Lieutenant Governor in the Primary Election

Our members here in Connecticut joined with SEIU members all across the country and made history in 2008 by standing united and working together! We elected leaders to the General Assembly, Congress, and the White House to tackle the issues affecting working families.

And in 2009, we had the opportunity to elect local elected leaders in the cities, towns, and schools where our members live and work. Once again we engaged our members in supporting candidates who would put workers' interests ahead of the special interests in communities across Connecticut.

To ensure we elect a governor and legislators who will put working families' interests ahead of the special interests in 2010, our labor partners are hosting candidate forums and scheduling interviews for our members to participate in. Candidates are also required to submit lengthy questionnaires to be considered for a possible Union endorsement and the support of our member-run Legislative Action Committee (LAC).

We are also tracking the candidates as they stump for votes on the campaign trail and sharing their views and statements on public services and the workers that deliver them with our members. Making an informed decision at the polls requires knowing which side they are on; that of Connecticut's working families or that of the banks and big businesses that have prospered at our expense.

Our efforts to mobilize Union members to "get out the vote" in the August 10 Primary Elections paid off. Thousands of phone calls and mailers to members helped turn races for the nominees for governor, state comptroller, and secretary of the state into decisive wins.
