People from across Connecticut representing all walks of life and all faith traditions are
gathering in Stamford Sunday at 6:00 PM to urge Senator Joe Lieberman (I) not to join a filibuster when health insurance reform legislation is debated in the US Senate. Unlike the five members of our House of Representatives' delegation, our junior senator appears unwilling to
say "no" to big insurance and their billion-dollar profits and "yes" to working families and their healthcare needs.
When Representatives Larson, Courtney, DeLauro, Himes, and Murphy voted on the
House healthcare bill last Saturday, they took a stand for the hardworking people of Connecticut. That's the type of leadership we need.
Voting for the
Affordable Health Care for America Act means our Congressional representatives:
-
Voted to stop the insurance industry’s practice of denying people coverage because of a pre-existing condition - that's 38,700 people in Connecticut;
-
Voted to improve coverage for the 2,384,000 insured through their job here in Connecticut;
-
Voted to protect the 3,800 Connecticut families who file for bankruptcy because of their medical bills; and
-
Voted to improve Medicare and make prescriptions more affordable for the 47,000 seniors in Connecticut who get trapped in the donut hole.
It's clear our House representatives understand that we can't afford to wait any longer for
real healthcare reform that holds insurance companies accountable.
Call your congressional representative today and tell them, "Thank you for supporting real healthcare reform:"

-
Rep. Joe Courtney - Norwich office: (860) 886-0139
-
Rep. Rosa DeLauro - New Haven office: (203) 562-3718
-
Rep. Jim Himes - Bridgeport office: (866) 453-0028
-
Rep. Chris Murphy - New Britain office: (860) 223-8412
Then there's Senator Lieberman, who has
threatened to derail the bill when it comes up for debate on the Senate floor.
That's why we have joined with the
Interfaith Fellowship for Universal Health Care, which includes clergy and members of all major religions, for the prayer vigil they are organizing Sunday in Stamford. We
alerted our members about this event last week because the Senator needs to hear from people of faith who believe he should support, not obstruct, reform.
Our allies at Connecticut Citizens Action Group (CCAG) have set up a
carpool sign-up page at their website for people coming from Hartford and New Haven. They are also coordinating shuttle rides from the
Stamford train station, as well.
Contact Political Director Danny Medress at (800) 894-9479, ext. 111 to let us know you will be part of this very unique event. Help amplify the voice of the faithful, who have been
ignored by Senator Leiberman on this issue critical to working families across Connecticut.
