Welcome!

We launched this current events section to provide frequent and timely news on issues impacting Connecticut's working families, as well as to share details on upcoming events and activities of interest to our Union members.

Let's Tell Governor Rell Our Story

The state budget remains in dire straits, with revenues still falling. If it weren't for State employees and the concessions they made last year, we'd be in even worse shape. But Governor Rell wants to make further cuts to public services and ask workers to come back to the bargaining table for more givebacks.

Our members have continued speaking out for better choices. CSC Council Steward Chuck Lemelin responded to calls for more concessions in a recent news article in The New London Day with a letter to the editor published in Saturday's edition.

But we also know that a slash and burn approach is not going to work either. We all need to tell the governor our stories to show her budget cuts are impacting critical services and hurting people in Connecticut.

Please complete one of the surveys prepared for members and leaders of the unions in SEBAC. They're quick and easy, but adding all the stories together will demonstrate in clear terms to the governor how gutting programs and chopping services harm working families in Connecticut every day and slow down economic recovery.

We have two individual surveys, and each is available in a web-based or downloadable format, for those who would rather do it with pen and paper the old fashioned way (which can be mailed to our Union hall in Hartford):
1. Rank-and-file union members:

2. SEBAC union leaders:

Plus, we put together a web-based form for the clients we serve to share their stories of the economy's impact on the services they count on, from unemployment claims to lines at the DMV.

Please complete the surveys and return them by Thursday, January 14 so we can compile the responses and review them before the next SEBAC leadership meeting.

Add your voice today -- so we can offer the governor better choices tomorrow!
