Congress is debating several proposals to reduce runaway healthcare costs and help more Americans access affordable, quality care, and Connecticut's own
Congressman Joe Courtney is leading the way. On Wednesday, he voted in favor of
America's Affordable Health Choices Act, which the House Committee on Education and Labor introduced earlier this month -- if you live in the district, take a moment to
thank the Congressman for standing up for Connecticut working families today.
Opponents of healthcare reform are targeting Representative Courtney for his position, and have orchestrated a small, but vocal minority of constituents to
demonstrate outside his Norwich district office in recent weeks. He needs to hear from the vast majority of us who appreciate his commitment to stand up to the special interests and fight for middle-class values like
healthcare for all:

Reforming our broken system so that the fifty million uninsured Americans have access to affordable care -- and so that the
twenty-five million who are underinsured can afford better coverage -- has long been a priority for SEIU and our labor partners. Now that we have a President and a Congress committed to progress, the
Change that Works campaign is focused on pushing them to act.
On Tuesday, members of Connecticut SEIU local unions will join with other working families, community organizations, and healthcare advocates to
flood the phone lines of our whole delegation to urge their support for affordable, guaranteed care.
Download a workplace flyer that includes instructions members can use for making calls to their House Representative, as well as a single toll free number SEIU has set up for us:
Take a moment to tell your representative in Congress that we've waited too long to fix healthcare. Tell them this is America's chance to provide a guarantee of
quality, affordable coverage we can all count on.
And we have a springboard here in Connecticut for mobilizing our members into supporting reform at the national level -- the
Sustinet Plan, which is now law after state legislators
overturned Governor Rell's veto on Monday. The bill creates the framework for the kind of public option for Connecticut that President Obama is urging Congress to include in a federal reform package.
With the US House of Representatives poised to vote on a bill that would expand access, lower costs, and stabilize coverage for working families across the country, be sure our delegation
hears from us on Tuesday.
