Para Council, Chapter I55 President Anne Kellner Delivers the Message "Pooling" Works at a Capitol News Briefing on Labor Lobby Day |
Our Executive Director has been appointed to the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership "working group" to carry out our members' commitment to pass legislation to join the ranks of 24 other states that "pool" public service workers in a single health plan. Council 760, P-4, and CSC Council Members came to the State capitol Friday, March 7 to speak out in support of the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership, the initiative to "pool" public employees into a single healthcare plan.
Our voices were heard; the bill passed favorably the following week, and then passed by the Appropriations Committee when they reviewed it the following week. Almost immediately after our standing room only capitol news briefing on Labor Lobby Day to call on lawmakers to support the bill, it passed in the Insurance Committee!
On April 23, the State House of Representatives passed the bill by a margin of more than 2 to 1. A week later, our Senators heard our message and passed the "pooling" bill! Now it's on its way to the Governor's desk for her signature, and we must show her that working families expect her to do the right thing...
