Putting the 'Professional' in Paraprofessional

Members at 2008 NRCP Conference
Members of Several Chapters Attended the National Resource Center for Paraprofessionals (NRCP) Conference Which Our Union Co-Hosted in Hartford in 2008

We held a historic first ever conference to bring together all CSEA/SEIU Local 2001 paraprofessionals on October 21, 2006. This effort moves us forward on a strategic plan to raise wages, build financial security, and improve the working conditions for our state’s valued education workers.

In this tradition, our union co-hosted the 2008 National Resource Center for Paraprofessionals (NRCP) Conference, which came to Hartford on April 14, 2008. The event was an opportunity to develop and strengthen our coalition-building efforts with natural allies committed to "closing the gap" for public school paraprofessionals.

Continuing in these efforts, Council leaders are mobilizing members to attend the State Education Resource Center of Connecticut's (SERC) annual paras conference for the second year in a row. Our Local union will reimburse at least ten members from any Chapter representing paras whose local district will not cover the cost to attend the event, which is scheduled for Thursday, October 29 in Cromwell.
