Our Paraprofessional Council

Building a Union for Connecticut's Paraeducators

New Paraprofessional Council Officers
Our New Paraprofessional Council Elected Leaders and Local President Mike O'Brien at Our Union Hall in May, 2008

Congratulations on the formation of our new Paraprofessional Council! CSEA/SEIU Local 2001's Executive Council met on March 25 and voted to approve the new Council By-Laws that our Organizing Committee proposed in January and presidents of Chapters representing paras ratified in February.

Paraeducators came from all over Connecticut to our Council "Kick-Off" at our union hall on May 10. Members elected the leaders from among the thirty-five chapters in our new Council who will guide us for the next two years.

As we look forward to improving the classroom experience for the children our members instruct and educate, it is clear that we need to build power for paraprofessionals. The simple fact is that Boards of Education and school administrators do not truly appreciate or value the work of paraprofessionals, which has resulted in limiting our voices on the job.
