Stewards in Our Council 760 Chapter Representing New Haven's School Bus Drivers Working for First Student
Our stewards are front-line worksite leaders who wear many hats. They are problem solvers, educators, communicators, but moreover, they are organizers. They monitor collective-bargaining agreements, advise employees on contract provisions, confront employers over safety issues, and represent employees in grievance proceedings.
A steward's job is critically important and often exciting. They make sure labor and management alike understand and abide by the workplace rules established by our contracts. And they use their leadership skills to build a stronger union.
Our International Union's "Stewards Manual" is a resource outlining stewards' various duties in the workplace, and it provides a handy checklist of things stewards need to know, have, and do.
We have prepared a version specific to our Local Union you can download and print. Additional bound copies are available at our Union hall, as well.
