Professional Development and Improved Working Conditions
Quality of Worklife and Sabbatical Leave Benefits

In late 2006, we began a new Quality of Worklife project to create opportunities for increased counselor training at the Bureau of Rehab Services and have moved management to work directly with us in generating a needs assessment and supporting our overall goals and objectives.

We are committed to empowering our Council's members to take an active role in creating more effective, efficient, and enjoyable worksites. Taking a proactive role in improving the quality of our worklives and expanding access to professional development will gain greater dignity and respect on the job for members and improve the vital education, rehabilitation, and care provided to children and adults across Connecticut.
Our current contract provides a fund of $60,000 per year to address quality of work life issues in the agencies where our members serve the public. If we can utilize this significant tool in each of our worksites, we can create greater effectiveness and efficiency for the people who count on the services we deliver.
Members may also be eligible for professional development opportunities by applying for sabbatical leave in order to complete college-level courses. Leave may be requested for periods of up to ten months for the two semesters of the regular school year, for up to five months for the spring or fall semesters, or for up to two months for the summer or other interim sessions.
2011 sabbatical applications are due February 5, 2011. Application forms are available at the Union hall in Hartford and linked below in a downloadable format.
