P-4 Members Do "Good Works"
Our Council's Good Works Committee
US Senator-Elect Dick Blumenthal Joined P-4 Council Members to Help Assemble Turkey Dinners for Food Pantries at Our Annual Holiday Meal Drive in November 2010
The purpose of the P-4 Council's Good Works Committee is to provide a means for our members to better serve the citizens of Connecticut through various charitable acts and offerings throughout the year. The big event is the annual turkey and fixings giveaway held before the Thanksgiving holiday. Recipients have included local food pantries, shelters, and churches that distribute meals to those most in need.
In 2007, long-time Committee member Tony Ferraro died unexpectedly just a few days before our Thanksgiving holiday event. As a memorial to this dedicated P-4 Council member and Steward, the annual event was renamed the "Rosario 'Tony' Ferraro Memorial Thanksgiving Drive," to honor his many years of faithful service.
In 2009, Council members teamed up with our Union’s Good Works Committee and donated 165 of the more than two hundred turkeys and fixings provided to individual recipients and organizations. We also helped our own Union members in need, including many who were laid-off during the economic crisis, and families of those who are active in military service overseas.
