Member Worksite Representatives
Council Members Gathered to Celebrate the Retirement of Several Long-Serving P-4 Stewards in June 2009
A Council steward is a State employee just like you. They have an important public service job to do every day, and they answer to the same management that you do.
The key difference, though, is that a steward has the training, the tools, and the protections to help you and other employees solve problems at work. They have been trained by the Union and have special legal protections to enable them to stand up for their co-workers when management isn't abiding by the rules in our contract.
Stewards are appointed by our Council president, and are organized by geographic location or worksite under a designated Chief Steward with a team of five Lead Stewards. Due to the number of state agencies where P-4 Council members work, it is not always possible to identify stewards within each. However, all are available to represent any of their co-workers, regardless of their home or assigned worksites.
